My Poker Song

I came up with a few ideas for the title of my poker song:
-I Always Pay to See the Flop
-He Called my Bluff
-I Should've Laid it Down
-I am the RiverDog
-Splash the Pot
-The Nut Flush
-Super Tight (this title might be good for a sex song too!)
-Flop Turn River

Hell, I could use all of these and make a whole poker album. This would sell great with a 3 pronged marketing blitz:
1. on 2:00am infomercials
2. on 30 second spots during late night poker tournament re-runs
3. on the internet in pop-up adds

I'm thinking this song needs to be a rock song, with a little country steel guitar, plus some wicky-wicky. Remember, I'm not an artist, I'm a capitalist, so I don't care if it's any good...I just want it to SELL BABY SELL. So I'm thinking of this as a classic Kid Rock kind of song. It would appeal to the mainstream, and even perhaps have that little bit of country dink sound to appeal to the old bastard poker players.

Here Come the Sox

Holy crap. I can actually see a scenario where the Red Sox might be able to take the AL East!!!
They won last night in extra innings (even though Lowe sucked AGAIN!!!), and the Yankees got rained out against Minnesota. That puts us 2 1/2 out today with Pedro on the mound against Todd Ritchie for the Devil Rays (0-2 10.29 ERA). That should be a convincing win for the Sox.

The Yankees are now stuck with a double-header against the Twins today. Minnesota will start Johan Santana (aka Cy Young) in the day game against Mike Mussina. The night game will be a battle between two mediocre starters with Leiber (13-8, 4.37) for the Yanks and Lohse (8-11, 5.31) for the Twins.

It's a stretch, and it probably won't happen, but if the Sox win and the Yankees drop two to the Twins today, WE COULD BE 1 GAME BACK WITH 4 TO PLAY !

And..... in the event of a tie, the Red Sox would win the division based on their head-to-head record against New York.

I'm still on the fence about whether it's worth fighting for this instead of preparing for the playoffs and resting guys. It also may not even come to any kind of decision, if the Yankees don't drop at least one game today and/or the Red Sox don't win, but it's an interesting scenario.

Not only would it be nice to steal the division from the Evil Empire, it would be great to take home field advantage, since the Sox are such a dominant club at Fenway.

Mahow Mahow.

Sucky Weekend

Well, this weekend pretty much sucked for my picks. I'm now 8-5 going into Monday night and nowhere near the $$ leaders who have 11. Once again, I got screwed by an Ohio team as the Browns laid an egg against the Giants.

As a Pats fan, this weekend sucked because they had an early Bye week.

As a Sox fan, it was nice to see them pound the Yankees on Saturday and Sunday, but it didn't mean anything after losing to Baltimore on Thursday and then to NY on Friday. They will be in the playoffs, which is great, but now have no shot for the division.

At this point, it's definitely time to plan for the playoffs by resting guys, setting up the starting rotation order, and getting fringe bullpen guys some work.

I guess I should be more excited going into this weekend with the Pats going to Buffalo, and one week away from the ALDS. Maybe I'm just tired on a Monday morning.

I kind of like this Blog thing. It's like an on-line leather couch to vent.

The World Needs a New Poker Song

So I have this idea. I think the world needs a new and fresh song about poker. Kenny Rogers made a fortune off of it in his time, but now that the poker craze has taken off, this could be a real money maker.

Here's what I'm thinking....
Since I have no musical talent whatsoever, I will write some crappy lyrics using all of the poker buzz words we've been hearing on TV lately. Then, I'll have my good buddy Doug lay out some guitar and bass, throw in some drum machine; and we can pitch it as the bumper for the World Poker Tour show. Or even better, as a soundtrack to one of the 10 inevitable poker movies that will come out over the next few years.

Then we can sit back, get fat, and appear on a "What Ever Happened to These One Hit Wonders" special in 15 years.

I think this idea is a winner!
